Thursday, 29 October 2026
Thank you for choosing Root. If you received our plantable card with your purchase, this guide is for you. Follow these steps to sow it directly in soil and care for its first shoots.
Beautiful things are still to come.
Before you begin
- Your Root card with tomato seeds
- A pot with drainage holes
- Seed compost
- Water and a spray bottle or watering can
How to plant your card
1. Prepare the soil
Fill a pot with seed compost and gently moisten it. Choose a pot with drainage holes so excess water can escape.
The soil should be moist, without becoming waterlogged.
2. Plant the paper
Place the card on the moist soil. You can plant it whole or cut it into pieces to spread it out.
Cover it with a thin layer of soil, no more than 1 cm deep. Water gently to moisten the surface.
3. Keep it moist
Check the soil regularly and add water when needed. Keep it moist without leaving standing water.
A spray bottle helps you water gently without moving the paper or seeds.
4. Care for the first shoots
Put the pot in a warm, bright spot. Keep caring for the moisture and watch your tomato seedlings emerge.
The card is just the beginning: seedlings need to grow into plants before they can produce tomatoes.
What happens as they grow?
Once the seedlings are large enough to handle carefully, you can move them into larger pots. If you plan to grow them outdoors, introduce them gradually and protect them from cold weather.
A few useful answers
Do I need to cut the card?
No. You can plant it whole or in pieces. Place the paper on moist soil and cover it with a thin layer.
Should I remove the seeds from the paper?
There is no need to separate them. Plant the paper with its seeds inside.
Do I need to water every day?
Check the moisture before watering. Add water as needed to keep the soil moist without soaking it.
What will I grow?
Tomato plants: this card contains tomato seeds.
